What is communal integration management (Kommunales Integrationsmanagement)?

Communal integration management, (German abbreviation: KIM), is an advice and information centre of the local authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia. KIM supports people who have come to Germany from abroad and wish to make a new home in North Rhine-Westphalia. Numerous integration programmes are available. KIM enables you to keep track of them. Information is bundled here and key integration questions are answered. 

What do I get from KIM?

Do you have many challenges and topics? The KIM Case Managers are very familiar with the integration process and are happy to support you in that respect. 

Do you have any questions about your residence status, a language course, employment/training or other topics? KIM provides answers, information and support. In conjunction with the KIM Case Management employees, you work out the next steps that will advance your personal integration process. What is KIM Case Management?

Irrespective of where you come from and what your residence status is: KIM Case Management provides advice and guidance. You discuss your concerns and requirements with your designated contact person. Together you can work out a suitable plan for your integration. 

The topics that you can discuss with your contact person in the KIM Case Management are wide-ranging and depend entirely on you. In that respect, your personal Case Manager helps you to find your way in your local authority and achieve your individual integration goals.

Instead of several, individual, appointments and different contact persons at different offices and authorities, KIM provides you with a single point of contact covering all aspects of your integration process. This guidance saves you time and effort.

In that respect, your individual family and life situation will be the focus of attention. Your KIM Case Manager will work out solutions with you that take your potentials, resources and challenges into account.

Information about all aspects of granting an opportunity residence right 

The “Act on the Introduction of an Opportunity Residence right” came into force on 31 December 2022 and has a limited period of three years. The Act gives people who have held a tolerated residence status for a lengthy time the prospect of leave to remain. By way of the opportunity residence right, you are granted a limited residence permit to then meet the requirements for further leave to remain within 18 months.
